Asics Gel Cumulus 26

The first is the Asics Gel Cumulus 26, Asics’ go-to neutral trainer. Being neutral means the shoe is flat at the back, providing balanced support without tilting to one side. It features FF Blast cushioning, which delivers a soft, plush ride—ideal if you’re looking for that “walking on clouds” feeling.

With an 8mm heel drop (the difference between the heel and the forefoot), this shoe creates a slight tilt, affecting how pressure is distributed through your Plantar Fascia.

If most of your pain occurs when your heel initially touches the ground—what we call compression-type Plantar Fasciitis—this soft, neutral shoe may be the perfect fit.

Asics GT-2000 13

If you need more stability, consider the ASICS GT-2000 13. This model has undergone a complete overhaul compared to its predecessors. Asics has replaced the traditional gel cushioning for medial arch support with full medial midsole gel cushioning, making the shoe significantly lighter despite its thicker midsole.

The GT-2000 13 offers more support, particularly on the inside, and features a 3D Guidance System. It has a broader base, especially at the forefoot, which helps stabilise the ankle and control side-to-side motion.

If you’re looking for a stable yet light shoe, the GT-2000 13 could be a great option—it’s slightly heavier than the Cumulus 26.

Asics Gel-Kayano 31

The Asics Gel-Kayano 30 is a go-to shoe for maximum stability. It features a 4D Guidance System with built-in medial arch support, making it particularly useful for those with stretch-related plantar fasciitis. The arch support helps elevate and offload the plantar fascia, relieving tension.

The Gel-Kayano 30 also offers more plush cushioning than the GT-2000 13 with a 10mm drop, giving a softer feel as you sink into the shoe. However, due to the added stack and stability, it’s heavier than the Cumulus and GT-2000 13.

If you need stability and are willing to sacrifice a little weight, the Gel-Kayano 31 might be your best shoe.
