So, the first shoe we recommend is the Skechers Arch fit, which we recommend most often to our patients. As you can see at the back of the heel, it’s got a hole and quite a deep heel cup, which means that the hole generally provides relief and takes the pressure off the back of the heel, which is one of the critical pieces of the shoe that can irritate your symptoms.
It has a relatively high stack, so the difference from the back to the front again helps lift the heel. This shortens the distance of the Achilles to the heel and can provide pain relief, as well. It’s got arch fit support that helps to control pronation moments as you walk or run, and on top of that, it’s got a nice soft upper that is comfortable and easy to slip on and off.

The next shoe that we’d recommend is the New Balance 860 v13. We’d recommend this again because it’s got a deep heel cup similar to that of the Skechers, but instead of it being quite thin and having a hole in it, this is exceptionally well padded by being so padded. It helps to provide cushioning and reduce the amount of compression on your Haglund’s deformity or your bursitis, providing pain relief.
It has a high stack of 10 mm from the back to the front. This takes the pressure off the Achilles tendon and the stress on the back of the heel bone where the Achilles attaches. It’s got Fresh Foam X cushioning, New Balance’s highest density and light foam. This makes it a super light shoe that is really cushioned and provides some extra padding to the back of your heel.

What’s important for those suffering from heel bursitis or Haglund’s deformity is that you don’t fluctuate your exercise levels. Consider non-impact exercises such as swimming, cross-trainer or biking rather than impact exercises such as running, jumping or hopping.
It’s important to stretch out your calf to relieve pressure on the back of your heel and stretch your plant fascia as well. We always recommend seeing a physiotherapist to assess your gait and foot function.
