What is Plantar Fasciitis?
Plantar Fasciitis is a painful condition that affects the heel bone and the arch of the foot. The Plantar Fascia attaches the heel bone to the ball of the foot. Its function is to provide structure and stability to the foot when standing and walking; however, if the Plantar Fascia becomes overloaded, it can become inflamed and painful, leading to Plantar Fasciitis. One of the key symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis includes pain first thing in the morning, and a Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint aims to ease this pain.
Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint
There is evidence to suggest that a night splint, combined with Plantar Fasciitis insoles, can reduce pain levels for Plantar Fasciitis when compared to using Plantar Fasciitis insoles on their own. While they are beneficial, we find that patients can struggle to tolerate wearing night splints for the entire night as they are obtrusive and sometimes uncomfortable. We have therefore provided two recommendations, one that is less intrusive and one that is larger but more likely to help reduce your pain levels.

We recommend the 3-strap Plantar Fasciitis night splint for those who want something less intrusive that is lighter, breathable and adjustable. We like that there is no cushioning on the heel as this can become hot and irritable when covered and the memory foam cushioning provides some comfort.

United Ortho Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint
We recommend the United Ortho Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint if you have moderate to severe symptoms due to its adjustable dorsiflexion angle, cushioning and adjustable flexion ankle. The dorsiflexion splint is important as extending the big toe places the Plantar Fascia under tension.
